François Rabelais was born in 1483 or 1494 at La Devinière, “country house” in Seuilly, 7km from Chinon. The author turned his childhood home and the surrounding landscape into the epicentre for the Picrocholine Wars when he wrote Gargantua. The novelist is one of few writers to have an area named after him: Rabelaisie.
